৭ ডিসেম্বর । নোয়াখালী মুক্ত দিবস। মুক্তিসেনারা এইদিন জেলা শহরের পিটিআই’তে রাজাকারদের প্রধান ঘাঁটির পতন ঘটিয়ে নোয়াখালীর মাটিতে উড়িয়েছিল স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশের বিজয় পতাকা। নুরুন্নবী নবীন এর তথ্য চিত্রে একটি রিপোর্ট।
২৫ মার্চের পর মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা এক মাসেরও বেশি সময় ধরে নোয়াখালীকে মুক্ত রাখতে সক্ষম হয়েছিলেন জেলার মুক্তিকামী মানুষ ও বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা। এরপর প্রতি পদে পদে বাঁধা পেয়ে বহুকষ্টে পাকিস্তানী সেনারা ২৩ এপ্রিল নোয়াখালী দখল করে নেয়। দখলদার বাহিনী জেলা শহরের শ্রীপুর, সদরের রামহরিতালুক, গুপ্তাংক , বেগমগঞ্জের কুরিপাড়া, গোপালপুর ও আমিশ্যাপাড়ায় নির্বিচারে গনহত্যা, অগ্নিসংযোগ ও লুটপাট চালায়। এ সময় হায়নাদাররা গুলি ও পুড়িয়ে হত্যা করে দেড় শতাধিক নারী-পুরুষ ও শিশুকে। গান পাউডার দিয়ে জ্বালিয়ে দেয় ঘরবাড়ি, দোকানপাট ও ব্যবসা প্রতিষ্ঠান।
এরপর দেশের অভ্যন্তরে ও ভারত থেকে প্রশিক্ষণ নিয়ে আবার অস্ত্র হাতে মাঠে নামে মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা। কোম্পনীগঞ্জের বামনী, তালমাহমুদের হাট, ১২ নং স্লুইস গেইট, সদরের ওদারহাট, করমবক্স, বেগমগঞ্জের ফেনাকাটা পুল, রাজগঞ্জ, বগাদিয়াসহ বিভিন্ন এলাকায় হানাদার বাহিনীর সাথে সম্মুখ যুদ্ধে শহীদ হন অসংখ্য মুক্তিযোদ্ধা।
নোয়াখালীকে হানাদার মুক্ত করার লক্ষ্যে মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের প্রস্তুতি যখন প্রায় চুড়ান্ত, ঠিক তখনই ৬ ডিসেম্বর গভীর রাতে মাইজদী পিটিআই ও বেগমগঞ্জ টেকনিক্যাল হাইস্কুল ক্যাম্প ছেড়ে কুমিল্লা সেনানিবাসের উদ্দেশ্যে পালিয়ে যেতে থাকে পাকিস্তানী মিলিটারিরা ও মিলিশিয়ারা। এ সময় বেগমগঞ্জ-লাকসাম সড়কের বগাদিয়া ব্রিজ অতিক্রম করতেই সুবেদার লুৎফুর রহমান ও শামসুল হকের নেতৃত্বাধীন মুক্তি বাহিনীর হামলায় অসংখ্য পাক মিলিটারি সদস্য ও মিলিশিয়া নিহত হয়।
মুক্ত দিবসের স্মৃতিচারণ করতে গিয়ে সাবেক জেলা মুক্তিযোদ্ধা কমান্ডার মোজাম্মেল হক মিলন, সদর উপজেলা কমান্ডার কামাল উদ্দিন, জানান, ৭ ডিসেম্বর ভোররাত থেকে মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা নোয়াখালীকে শত্রুমুক্ত করার চুড়ান্ত অপারেশন শুরু করেন। সকাল সাড়ে ৮টার মধ্যে সকল মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা একযোগে চতুর্দিক থেকে আক্রমন চালিয়ে বেগমগঞ্জ চৌরাস্তা সংলগ্ন টেকনিক্যাল হাইস্কুল অবস্থিত রাজাকার ক্যাম্প মুক্ত করে।
একই দিন জেলা শহরের মাইজদি কোর্ট রেল ষ্টেশন, জিলা স্কুল, দত্তেরহাট নাহার মঞ্জিল মুক্ত করে অকুতভয় বীর মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা। তারপর পাকআর্মি ও রাজাকারদের প্রধান ঘাঁটি মাইজদি পিটিআই সকাল ৯টার দিকে মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা চতুর্দিক থেকে ঘিরে ফেলে। মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের অবস্তান টের পেয়ে পিটিআই ক্যাম্পের ভেতরে অবস্থানরত রাজাকাররা এলোপাতাড়ি গুলি বর্ষণ করতে থাকে। এ সময় গুলিবিদ্ধ হয়ে পার্শ্ববর্তী সরকারি আবাসিক এলাকার এক ব্যক্তি মারা যান। পাল্টা গুলি চালায় মুক্তিযোদ্ধারাও। গুলির শব্দে কেঁপে উঠে পুরো শহর।
সন্ধ্যা ঘনিয়ে অন্ধকার নেমে আসার সাথে সাথে ক্যাম্প ছেড়ে পালাতে থাকে রাজাকাররা। বিপরীত দিক থেকে গুলি বন্ধ হলে মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা ক্যাম্পের ভেতরে গিয়ে দেখতে পান সেখানে ১০-১২ জন রাজাকারের লাশ পড়ে আছে। আরো কয়েকজন রাজাকার ধরা পড়ে মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের হাতে। এভাবে ৭ ডিসেম্বর মুক্ত হয় নোয়াখালী জেলা ।
জেনারেল হাসপাতাল এলাকায় বসবাসকারী স্থানীয়রা জানায়,দেশ স্বাধীন হওয়ার অনেক পরে হাসপাতালে চাকুরীজীবীদের জন্য আবাসস্থল নির্ন্মানের সময় মাটির নীচে মানুষের হাঁড়,মাথার খুলি, মহিলাদের চুল পাওয়া যায়, সে স্থানগুলি আজোও সংরক্ষন করা হয়নি।
তবে স্বাধীনতার ৪৬ বছরেও শহীদ মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের কবর , গনকবর গুলি আজও সংরক্ষিত হয়নি । বিশেষ করে মাইজদি পিটিআই হানাদারদের ক্যাম্পে অত্যাচার ও গুলি করে মুক্তিযোদ্ধা এবং স্বাধীনতাকামীদের হত্যার পর জেনারেল হাসপাতালের পিছনে গর্ত করে পুতে পেলত, তাদের কবরগুলি সংরক্ষিত হয়নি।
জেলার মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা গনকবরগুলি চিহ্নিত করে সংক্ষরন করে করার জন্য দাবী জানান।
নানা কর্মসূচীর মধ্যদিয়ে দিনটি পালন করবে জেলা মুক্তিযোদ্ধা সংসদ সহ বিভিন্ন শ্রেনী পেশার মানুষ।
এ উপলক্ষে মাইজদি পিটিআই সংলগ্ন মুক্ত স্কয়ারে আলোচনা সভা, মুক্তিযুদ্ধের গান ও র্যালী অনুষ্ঠিত হবে।

After March 25, the freedom fighters of the district were able to keep Noakhali free for more than a month. Then on 29 April, Pakistani troops occupied Noakhali with many posts. The occupying forces carried out indiscriminate killings, arson and looting in Sripur, Ramharritalu, Sadar, Guptank, Begumganj, Gopalpur and Amishapara in the district. At this time, more than 150 women and children were shot dead by hyenas. Homes, shops and business establishments burn with song powder.
Then inside the country and from India, the freedom fighters were again called in the field with weapons. Many freedom fighters were martyred in the front battle with the invading forces in various areas including Bamani of Kompaniganj, Talmahmood Hut, No. 12 Sluice Gate, Sadar Oderhat, Cormbox, Fenakata Pool of Begamganj, Rajganj, Baghdia.
When the freedom fighters were almost ready to free Noakhali, the Pakistani army and militia fled to Comilla Cantonment on the night of 5 December, leaving Maizadi PTI and Begumganj Technical High School camps. At this time, numerous Pak military members and militia were killed in the attack by the freedom fighters led by Subedar Lutfur Rahman and Shamsul Haque.
On the occasion of the commemoration of the Independence Day, former district freedom fighter commander Mozammel Haque Milon, Sadar Upazila commander Kamal Uddin, said that on December 5, the freedom fighters launched a final operation to liberate Noakhali. At around 7:30 am, all the freedom fighters were attacked from around the same time and freed the Razakar camp at the Technical High School adjacent to Begumganj Chowrasta.
On the same day, the freedom fighters were released by the Maizadi Court Rail Station, Zila School, Dutherhat Nahar Manzil on the same day. Then the main bases of the Pak Army and Razakars surrounded the freedom fighters around 4am. Razakars, who were inside the PTI camp, started firing at the freedom fighters. One person died in the nearby government residential area after being shot. The fighters also opened fire. The whole city is shaken by the sound of bullets.
Razakars fled the camp as it got dark in the evening. When the firing was stopped in the opposite direction, the freedom fighters went inside the camp and saw the bodies of 8-12 Razakars lying there. Several other Razakars were caught in the hands of the freedom fighters. Thus, Noakhali district was released on 5 December.
Locals living in the General Hospital area said that after the independence of the country, the construction of the accommodation for the hospital staff was found under the ground, the man's knee, his skull, women's hair, the places have still not been preserved.
However, the graves and martyrs of the martyrs of freedom fighters have not been saved even in this year of independence. Particularly Maizadi PTI were tortured and shot in the camps of the invaders and after being killed by freedom fighters and freedom fighters, they burst into the back of the General Hospital and their graves were not preserved.
The freedom fighters of the district demanded to be identified by the mass graves.
